To commemorate the 50th anniversary of USS Nautilus reaching the North Pole on August 3, 1958, Don arranged a special amateur radio operating event from the Submarine Force Museum and Historic Ship Nautilus in Groton, CT, which took place on August 2 and 3, 2008. The event reached more than 2,000 radio "hams" in all fifty states and twenty-six countries.
